Partnership: Empowering Grassroots Farmers
His Royal Highness, Pharmacist Luka Panya Baba together with our Country Advisor, William Karshima, presented awards to the farmers who participated in The Leader Team’s SHINE Farm Training.
Small-scale farmers play a pivotal role in the agricultural landscape of developing nations like Nigeria. They serve as a cornerstone for food security, economic stability, and rural development. Farmers not only provide food for families but also contribute significantly to the local economy by creating jobs and fostering entrepreneurship. In Nigeria, many of those living in rural villages are engaged in agriculture, with around 70% of households participating in crop farming.
In a bid to create employment, promote agriculture, reduce poverty, hunger and give farmers sustainable farming skills, The Leader Team is engaging grassroot farmers through their traditional rulers to promote a system of agriculture that is sustainable and yields high results. By doing this, we are achieving our vision of having a world where all people are living well and leading well.
This month, The Leader Team partnered with two traditional rulers in Nigeria, one in The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja and the second in Nasarawa State. We trained local farmers in these communities on simple, manageable, applicable and long-lasting soil conservation practices that result in high yields. The two traditional rulers were; Sa’karuyi of Old Karu, His Royal Highness, Joseph Danfulani Narai who is the current ruler of Old Karu in FCT, while the second, His Royal Highness, Pharmacist Luka Panya Baba, is the Esu of New Karu in Nasarawa State.

During the training, farmers learn the minimal necessities to become self-sufficient and generate surplus from their land. This helps them escape poverty, increase their daily nutrition, improve the environment, and generate enough income to build a better future for themselves and their families.
